Cusick, Stephen

Dr. Cusick is Director of the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation at Florida Institute of Technology.  A former U.S. Navy Captain, flight instructor and Naval Aviator, he is an active pilot with multi-engine, instrument and helicopter flight ratings from the Federal Aviation Administration. A specialist in aviation safety, he is the lead author of a recent textbook entitled Commercial Aviation Safety, Sixth Edition from McGraw-Hill. 


Personal Overview

During his professional career served with the U.S. Government for the Navy Office of General Counsel at NAVSEA and NAVAIR facilities.  Extensive experience in high technology Government Contacts working for Harris Corporation, and DRS Technologies.  As Director of the FAA Center of Excellence for General Aviation, he is engaged as principle investigator for the FAA Rotorcraft ASIAS Flight Data Management research project.  He is a frequent speaker for the FAA Safety Team in the Orlando area.  Memberships include the Flight Safety Foundation, Helicopter Association International, Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association, the Aviation Committee of the Florida Bar, the University Aviation Association and the Florida Tech Center for Ethics & Leadership at the Bisk College of Business.
