Functional Genomics of Invasive Species

Invasive species impose critical threats to ecological and economic systems worldwide. Florida has more invasive species than any other state in the United States; even our marine environment is affected by invasions of exotic species like the venomous lionfish. Dr. Turingan will discuss plans for a novel approach - analyzing the entire genomes of fish species - to predict the magnitude of the threat of potential and actual invasive fish species, and to better understand how well native species perform in response to exotic invaders.
