Florida Tech's biology degree program explores a variety of specialties from genetics and physiology to conservation, agriculture, marine biology and tropical ecology.

Whether you want to explore the mysteries of human evolution, study the complexities of living systems or become a leader in public health advocacy, you can find career options with a biology degree from Florida Tech. Here, you'll develop a strong background in biology and get hands-on experience in organic chemistry and vertebrate anatomy.

Gain Practical Experience through Research

The best way to learn science is to do it. In the field and in the lab, Florida Tech students gain scientific skills through hands-on experience in small classes with intensive faculty-student interaction. First-year students start their biology degree program right away, taking core courses like Biological Discovery and General Chemistry.

Students work and study in the state-of-the-art F. W. Olin Life Sciences Building, a teaching and research laboratory that includes an aquaculture facility, climate change institute and the research labs of biology department faculty. As a student in the biology degree program you have the opportunity to undertake exciting independent or collaborative (with a peer or professor) research in a topic of your choosing. Florida Tech is strategically located near the estuarine habitats of the Indian River Lagoon and Atlantic Ocean marine ecosystems. As a result, you get practical experience and an enhanced job search portfolio.

Build Professional Relationships

Beyond the classroom, biology majors build leadership and professional experience through internships and participation in academic organizations like Tri Beta (biological sciences honor society), student government and over 100 other campus-wide student organizations. Biology majors may also participate in unique summer field programs that take them to Costa Rica, Peru, the Caribbean, Australia, the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains and the African savannah.
