Florida Tech business students are required to perform at least six hours of community service as part of their Major Field Practicum, allowing students to learn the importance of corporate social responsibility.

Being a Florida Tech business student opens a variety of opportunities including competing in intercollegiate competitions in areas such as strategic management, international business, ethics and leadership, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

Business Administration Leadership Internship

Test Skills in a Major Field Practicum

A leadership internship at a local business provides Florida Tech students with an opportunity to test their skills in a real-world environment. By forging relationships with companies through these internships, students are able to work at many well-known companies, including:

  • Northrop Grumman
  • Clear Channel Outdoor
  • Merrill Lynch
  • Harris Corporation
  • Kennedy Space Center

Bridge Classroom Learning and Real World Experience in the Major Field Practicum

In addition to a leadership internship, The Major Field Practicum, a six-hour community service requirement, allows students to gather workplace experience in a local business while helping their community at the same time. Each student is matched with a host organization of interest learns how the organization functions and gains practical insight into problem-solving and decision-making processes.

Students also may be invited to independent study and research positions alongside faculty where they can learn and participate in the creation of marketing knowledge or in servicing a real client. Students also gain experience in corporate social responsibility by becoming actively engaged in a community organization. These experiences enhance classroom learning and prepare students for success during their leadership internship and in preparation for future careers.

Campus-Based Research Opportunities

Campus-based research opportunities build skills for leadership internships and future management jobs. They include:

  • Center for Entrepreneurship and New Business Development - The center focuses on entrepreneurial education, global innovation and practical research in pursuit of new venture creation, sustainability, social value creation and venture acceleration.
  • Center for Ethics and Leadership - The mission of the center is to promote the practice of ethical behavior and effective leadership through in activities that provide a forum for research, discussion and better understanding of ethics and leadership amongst all stakeholders in society.

Student Business Incubator – A Business-Launching Boot Camp

With the Student Business Incubator, Florida Tech provides an opportunity for students with exceptional business ideas to turn those concepts into business realities. The program gives select student startup businesses office space, computers and other supplies to help the business get off the ground. Our students can use this equipment, along with skills obtained from business courses and leadership internships, to turn their ideas into realities.

International Focus

Business students learn alongside their international peers both on campus and through virtual teams by bringing together students from around the globe using Cloud and Web technologies. Business majors also have an opportunity to study abroad through programs to areas such as Spain, the Netherlands and Oxford, England. These experiences give students new methods for finding leadership internships and jobs.

Make Contacts in a Club or Organization

Professional organizations are the perfect way for students to develop skills and network for leadership internships and jobs. The business honor society Delta Mu Delta helps students make connections nationally and internationally as they prepare to enter a global job market. Delta Mu Delta also works to recognize academic excellence in business students. The Florida Tech Entrepreneur Club also allows students to meet with local entrepreneurs to learn more about business first hand and exchange creative ideas.
