Florida Tech’s Finance degree program prepares students for employment worldwide in companies involved in international trade or finance. Graduates typically work in careers such as commercial banking, financial planning, investment banking, money management, insurance, and real estate.

Finance students at Florida Tech develop critical thinking expertise to evaluate global financial issues related to currency fluctuations, exchange rate risk, multinational investment, and capital budgeting. Finance majors also develop an industry leading understanding of investments, capital budgeting, risk analysis, and foreign exchange hedging techniques.

Students in a finance degree program take courses in macro and microeconomics, accounting, business law, personal finance, statistics, E-business, international finance, portfolio management, corporate finance, strategic management, and other fundamentals.

Graduates of Florida Tech’s corporate finance degree program work in corporate finance, personal financial planning, financial analysis, and investments, employed in many businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government.

Gain Practical Experience

Florida Tech professors use hands-on learning experiences and case methodology to ensure that finance degree majors gain practical experience applicable to the type of work they’ll do in their job. This includes developing detailed capital budgeting projects, making corporate financial decisions, understanding WACC, CAPM, asset management, preparing and analyzing financial statements, building leadership and teamwork skills, and understanding ethical decision-making.

The program is designed using a case-based methodology, which challenges students to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world financial problems that demand customized solutions. Graduates not only become financial experts, they learn how to interact with other corporate executives, analyze complex situations, make recommendations, and create value.

Finance majors build business experience by providing guidance to global businesses and government agencies making investment decisions. They learn and nurture the ability to assess the performance of stocks, bonds, and other types of investments in international commodities markets, and make decisions leading to financial success.

A Uniquely Qualified Faculty

Active in research that’s published in top journals, Florida Tech professors use their real-world experience and teaching at leading academic institutions to prepare students.

The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business is dedicated to fostering ethical decision-making and educating leaders who make thoughtful decisions, set high standards, and promote corporate accountability. Key initiatives in the corporate finance program include an ethics and leadership breakfast, intercollegiate ethics competition, leadership conference, and projects about corporate social responsibility.

Professors encourage innovative thinking and exploration offering many opportunities to work alongside business leaders and entrepreneurs through the Visiting Executive and Entrepreneur Programs, which include lectures, mentoring, and public talks.

Located in the Heart of Florida’s High-tech Corridor

Florida Tech is the perfect place for a BS in Finance. The 130-acre campus is located on the Space Coast (so named because of the presence of NASA and the Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral just north of us), minutes away from the Indian River Lagoon, the most diverse estuary in North America.

The area has the fifth largest high-tech workforce in the country, with more than 5,000 high-tech corporations and government and military organizations located nearby. This workforce also provides an abundance of internship and employment opportunities.

Florida Tech is just over the causeway from the Atlantic Ocean with its 72 miles of beautiful beaches, and a short trip to the Florida Keys or the Orlando theme parks. We also have a rich campus life that includes a wide range of intramural and collegiate sports, clubs, and social activities.

Join the Student Business Incubator

Students have access to the Student Business Incubator, where students test their entrepreneurship skills. The facilities include fully updated computer classrooms that support team projects in accounting, finance, marketing, and strategic management, among others; library resources for accounting and finances courses including Value Line and Mergent; and SPSS statistical software for data analysis and marketing simulations.

The incubator also hosts regular student business hack-a-thons that allow cross-disciplinary collaboration among students as they solve real corporate problems in education, healthcare, the military, and communications. These events allow anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit to put their ideas out there, and benefit from students who have knowledge in different areas of business development.

In addition to the core curriculum, each student has an opportunity to participate in a study abroad semester between the junior and senior years and given the option of participating in an international business practicum in the semester after graduation.

What Can You Do with a Finance Degree?

With a BS in Finance, strong communication and analytical skills, and technology experience, graduates work in positions such as financial analyst, business analyst, or support analyst. These positions allow students to grow their skills doing financial reports, trend analysis, pricing strategies, document financial transactions, data problem solving and more. Graduates with an MBA and on-the-job experience have additional opportunities, including strategic planner, certified financial planner, senior financial analyst, and more.

In general, careers in finance involve managing budgets, reviewing financial reports, making forward looking investment decisions, analyzing market trends, developing a network of financial contacts, and analyzing returns on investments. Women are also making rapid in roads in corporate finance positions, particularly those with leadership skills.

Finance majors are among the top three most recruited majors in the country, with the some of the highest starting salaries.

Employment of business and financial occupations is projected to grow 10% through 2026. Several financial management specialties such as risk management and cash management are also expected to be in high demand over the next decade. Globalization, a growing economy, and a complex tax and regulatory environment are expected to create a strong demand for accountants and auditors. And with the continued growth of technology in all aspects of business, data analysts will become increasingly more important.

With experience, careers in finance advance to additional duties including creating and monitoring company budgets, explaining financial data to company managers, writing company financial policies, hiring and supervising analysts, monitoring cash flow and building forecasts and budgets:
