WFIT-FM Public Education Capital Outlay Grant

Florida Community Service Grant awarded by the Florida Department of Education. A PECO Grant for relocation of the WFIT studios. This project will alleviate health and safety issues and accommodate future growth of Brevard’s only locally owned and operated public radio station. The new5,000-square-foot building will have 6 broadcast studios including a performance studio. The facility will also have conference room to provide the opportunity to broadcast round table discussions. The new WFIT studios will be attached to the Gleason Performing Arts facility which proves to be a perfect match between the University’s arts center and the radio station. This match will allow larger performances held in Gleason to be broadcast on WFIT.

Completion of this project will allow WFIT to better serve the citizens of East Central Florida with a diverse programming schedule, including: National Public Radio News; local interviews that highlight non-profit groups, arts and culture organizations, the people and programs of FL Tech and other endeavors in the community that improve the quality of life in the area.

Music programs range from Indie Rock, Blues, Celtic, New Age, Folk, Classical, Jazz and more. Local programs are hosted by community volunteers who share their passion and knowledge with their listeners. WFIT is supported in part by listeners and local business underwriters.

WFIT also airs community service programming in the form of interviews and public service announcements and in studio performances by both local and national talent. Live concerts, hosted by the station throughout the year, are free and open to the public. These concerts provide culturally diverse entertainment and invite participation by attendees.
